I judged these on whether the output looks professional enough to present without redesigning anything, since that’s the real test for a non-designer building client-facing decks. The output looks professional enough to present to clients without redesigning anything. That was the test for me. I used Gamma to build workshop pitch decks and client proposals. When nobody comments on the slides looking “AI-generated,” you know the tool is working.

Why it’s here: Beautiful.ai’s “Smart Slides” are the closest thing to having a designer on call. Every slide auto-formats as you add content. Text resizes. Images align. Spacing adjusts. You literally cannot make an ugly slide because the system enforces good design rules.
This matters when your audience judges your credibility by your slide quality. Investor pitches. Board presentations. Client proposals. Workshop materials. The design quality from Beautiful.ai is a tier above the others.
What I like:

I use Canva for quick internal presentations and social media slide decks. For anything that needs to look sharp for an external audience, I’ll use Gamma or Beautiful.ai instead.

A Note on Tome
Tome used to be on this list for narrative, story-driven presentations. As of this update, its consumer product is gone — the company pivoted to enterprise sales enablement tools, and the site that used to host individual presentation creation no longer serves that product. If you were using Tome for narrative decks, Gamma is the closest replacement now (see above).

My Presentation Workflow
For workshops and client presentations, I use this approach:
- Claude writes the content outline and key talking points
- Gamma generates the initial slide deck from that outline
- I review and adjust content on specific slides
- Export to PowerPoint or PDF for the final presentation
Total creation time: about 30 minutes for a 15-20 slide deck. Before AI tools, this was a 3-4 hour process. The bottleneck used to be design. Now it’s thinking about what to say, which is how it should be.
FAQ
Can these replace PowerPoint?
For creation, yes. AI tools are faster for building new presentations. For heavy editing, complex animations, and corporate template compliance, PowerPoint and Google Slides still have their place. Most people create in AI tools and export to PowerPoint for sharing.
Will my audience know the presentation was AI-made?
Not with Gamma or Beautiful.ai. The designs are polished enough to pass as professionally made. With Canva’s basic templates, experienced viewers might recognize common templates.
What about Apple Keynote?
Keynote doesn’t have AI features yet. If you need to present in Keynote, create in an AI tool and export to PowerPoint, then open in Keynote. Not ideal, but it works.
How many slides should a presentation have?
For a 15-minute presentation: 10-15 slides. For a workshop: 30-50 slides (lots of visual aids). For a pitch deck: 10-12 slides. AI tools tend to generate the right number when you specify your time constraint in the prompt.
